A low-speed wind-tunnel investigation was made to determine the lateral control characteristics of three untapered unswept wings of aspect ratio 1.13, 2.13, and 4.13 and an untapered 4%o sweptback wing of aspect ratio 2.09 equipped with O.60-semispan retractable ailerons having various projections. Each of the wings had an NACA 64A010 airfoil section and had the ailerons mounted at the 0. 70-chord station. The continuous- span aileron investigated on the unswept wings spanned the outboard stations of each wing; whereas the plain (continuous span) and stepped (segmented) retractable ailerons investigated on the sweptback wing were located at various spanwise stations and were tested with and without simulated actuating arms.
