This report discusses the performance of four full scale prestressed concrete pavements built between 1971 and 1979 in different parts of the United States in various climatic areas carrying a range of traffic. It was concluded that prestressed concrete has performed adequately. On the basis of its performance and economics, prestressed pavement is a viable alternate type. Some design guidelines are suggested and desirable future project characteristics are indicated.
