The FAA contracted with a group of experienced retired airline captains, the Special Air Safety Advisory Group, to make an independent evaluation of air carrier operations in the national aviation system to determine actions that can be taken to improve flight safety, with special emphasis on approach and landing problems. The report contains the findings and recommendations of the Special Air Safety Advisory Group and an appendix setting forth FAA's response to the report.
