Increasing defensive capabilities of potential enemies have required significant changes in the Strategic Air Command's mission and training philosophy since the mid-1970s. Specifically, the command has stepped up B -52 participation in a variety of exercises to improve readiness in both the nuclear and nonnuclear missions. The author discusses the SAC training program in some detail to show how changes in philosophy insure that the aging B-52 will be a viable weapon system during the 1980s. (Author)
