A series of lateral-impact tests were conducted to determine the worst impact angle with respect to automobile intrusion using the Society of Automotive Engineers moving-barrier. Automobiles were impacted at 20 mi/h, and the impact angle was varied from 50 to 80 deg. The maximum vehicle intrusion occurred in the tests with a 60 deg impact angle.
