This report contains forecasts of aviation activity at FAA facilities. These include airports with FAA control towers, air route traffic control centers, and flight service stations. Detailed forecasts were made for the four major users of the National Aviation System: air carriers, air taxi/commuters, general aviation and the military. The forecasts were prepared to meet the budget and planning needs of the constituent units of the FAA and to provide information that can be used by state and local authorities, by the aviation industry, and by the general public. The overall outlook for the forecast period is for continued economic growth, rising real fuel prices, and moderate inflation. Based upon these assumptions, aviation activity by fiscal year 2000 is forecast to increase by 31.0% at towered airports (commuters, 51.8%; air carriers, 34.6%; general aviation, 27.5%; military, 0.0%), 32.0% at air route traffic control centers (commuters, 55.2%; air carriers, 33.7%; general aviation, 30.0% military, 0.0%, and 7.8% in flight services performed. Hours flown by general aviation are forecast to increase 14.9% and helicopter hours flown, 82.6%. Scheduled domestic revenue passenger miles (RPMs) are forecast to increase 73.6%, with scheduled international RPMs forecast to increase by 104.9%; and regionals/commuters RPMs forecast to increase by 158.7%.
