The Northeast Corridor Project within the Federal Railroad Administration of the Department of Transportation had its foremost objective the development planning, physical design and subsequent implementation of high speed intercity rail passenger service between Washington D.C. and Boston, Massachusetts. This would include the renovation, expansion or new construction of 15 stations along the Northeast Corridor. This project was defined to develop planning and design requirements and prepare alternative designs for a prototype beltway (low activtiy level) intercity rail passenger station, select optimized design and develop a site-specific station work package.
