This report reports the results of a year-long in-house effort to investigate the potential utility and economic feasibility of developing a standard shuttle experiment support system to satisfy Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL) scientific requirements. It is shown that a shuttle detachable spacecraft capable of operating away from the orbiter environment, as well as attached in the cargo bay, maximizes its usefulness as an experiment support platform. A philosophy of minimum shuttle interface and efficient utilization of cargo bay volume is incorporated in an effort to reduce costs and provide greater flexibility for launch opportunities.
