The report presents the results of sensitivity analyses conducted on the F-111 aircraft. The objective of the investigation was to identify and assess those parameters which significantly affect the crack propagation characteristics of high strength steel and to relate these results to the F-111 aircraft. The study was done by parametric analyses, and the results are presented graphically in terms of subcritical crack growth interval versus the independent parameter. The analyses showed where emphasis should be placed to control the parametric variables and to minimize a structural failure caused by a pre-existing flaw. In particular, the greatest variation in crack growth interval was a function of initial flaw size. (Author)
