The invention relates to a noncontact lateral control system for use in a levitation-type transport system. The noncontact lateral control system of the invention senses the lateral position of the container within the transit corridor relative to the transit corridor sidewalls during container movement and moves the container in the proper lateral direction to ensure that the center of the container is maintained in alignment with the center of the transit corridor.
