This report summarises the deliberations of Working Group 11 of the Guidance and Control Panel of AGARD. The objectives of the Working Group were: (1) Analyze the structure of knowledge-based guidance and control functions related to aircraft, missions, and the battlefield and identify their potential for automation. (2) Analyze the structure of knowledge-based guidance and control functions related to the life cycle of guidance and control systems, and identify their potential for automation. (3) Review the state-of-the-art of those software and hardware oriented technologies required for the transfer of the knowledge-based GC functions to automatic systems. (4) Review existing programmes. (5) Make recommendations for future work.
