Demonstration projects were funded in Connecticut (an urban eastern State) and Utah (a rural western State) to investigate the effects of various levels of enforcement on 55 mph speed limit compliance on Interstate highways. One, two, four and six marked patrol cars were given rotating assignments on four road segments according to a statistical latin square design. The resulting percent reduction in the percent exceeding 55 mph is given for all pairwise treatment comparisons. Analyses were also conducted for the percent exceeding 60 mph and 65 mph. Citation data as well as enforcement costs and revenues were also reported.
