This report describes the results of trials to assess the volume of residues remaining on board coastal chemical tankers after cargo discharge. The vessels participating in the trials were the Benvenue, the Pass of Cairnwell and the Silver Falcon. The results show that the residues remaining in cargo tanks are small, typically 100-300 litres, and that the use of cargo stripping systems can reduce these to about 50 litres per tank.
