The Biorack is a multiuser Spacelab facility that provides temperature controlled environments for biological experiments. It consists of actively controlled thermal units mounted in a Spacelab single rack and passively controlled thermal units used as experiment transport containers. The Biorack provides a protected working space for handling and observation of specimens in a glove box system. Biorack carries 2 centrifuges in each incubator for 1-g simulation in flight. All experiments are duplicated on ground in near-synchronous time. Thus, it provides an operational infrastructure that allows biologists to perform all experiment controls required to unambiguously interpret the data obtained.
