A total of 153 Phase 1 tests were completed at temperatures of -100F, 1500F, 2000F, and 2500F. Results demon strated significant differences in the coefficient of friction, wear, and load-carrying ability, and some promise of satisfactory bearing materials for the entire temperature range is indicated. It was agreed to discard four of the eight original Phase 1 test materials from further testing. The Phase 2 lubricant study is currently in progress and four of the six lubricants have been selected. Consideration is being given to two additional lubricants. The Phase 3 ultrahigh vacuum test rig components are being fabricated and will be installed into the test chamber very soon. (Author)
