In this paper a brief description of French-German Research Institute of Saint Louis (ISL) instrumentation used during the Joint Acoustic Propagation Experiment (JAPE) experiments and an overview of the first analysis of the data collected during this measurement campaign is presented. The acoustic data have been analyzed first to allow the characterization of the acoustic sources used (speakers, guns, helicopters, etc.), and secondly to study the propagation characteristics of these different sources according to the local meteorological situation. Some tests have been made with a helicopter flying behind a small hill in order to measure the effect of terrain obstruction on sound propagation, as well as to evaluate non line-of-sight helicopter detection.
