The goal of this Small Business Innovation Research project is to reduce human injuries and deaths during car collisions with heavy trucks and buses. Livvon LLC is developing a bumper airbag for heavy trucks and buses that could reduce deaths and the severity of injuries from current frontal collisions by 90%. The technical question we tried to answer was: What is the best design for this bumper airbag, i.e. Airbag Length, Height, and Front Face Slant Angle. The specific objective of this Phase I research and development effort was to determine the optimum bumper airbag design based on computer simulations of the airbag in collisions and cross winds.
