A study was made of the effect of gasoline icing inhibitors on aircraft carburettor icing. An engine test was developed and used to evaluate various types of inhibitor. The results obtained showed that aircraft carburettor icing can be prevented by the inclusion of additives in the gasoline. The use of a teflon-coated throttle plate to prevent ice adhesion was studied and found to virtually eliminate any ice formation on the plate. The use of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether at 0.10 - 0.15% by volume in the gasoline and the teflon-coated plate was shown to prevent both carburettor and fuel system icing. (Author)
