The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation is responsible for saving lives, preventing injuries and reducing traffic-related health care and other economic costs resulting from motor vehicle crashes on the nation's highways. To that end, NHTSA's Office of Traffic Safety Programs (TSP) provides national leadership and technical assitance to states and local communities in developing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating information about highway safety programs. Much of this technical assistance is provided through the distribution of injury prevention and public health materials to national organizations, public and private interest groups, corporations, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies, other Federal agencies, state and local governments, NHTSA regional offices and the general public. The materials listed in the Traffic Safety Materials Catalog are available from the Traffic Safety Programs Resource Center. Each entry provides an item number (order number), a description or annotation, the year an item was published, the format, and the audience for which an item is directed.
