The report presents a description of a computer-based onboard automatic ship performance monitoring system developed by Erskine Systems Control, Inc. under a U.S. Maritime Administration research program. The status of the program is reviewed and the specific accomplishments of the present contract are described and discussed. The system design methodology, details of the system, and the performance data provided by the system are presented. The advantages of this implementation are discussed in relation to its potential for improved shipboard and shoreside management, and flexibility and growth capability. The technology described is shown to provide the means for achieving significant reductions in operating costs of ship and fleet, and to be independent of the means of propulsion of the ship.
