The chronology that follows is an updated and expanded version of the the one the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Research Center (TCRC) first published in September 1994 at the request of the command's Commander in Chief, Air Force General Ronald R. Fogleman, and the Maritime Administration (MARAD) Administrator (and former USTRANSCOM Deputy Commander in Chief), retired Navy Vice Admiral Albert J. Herberger. The authors intend it to be used as a primer on USTRANSCOM, the National Defense Reserve Fleet, and the Ready Reserve Force, and as a handy reference source for a wide-variety of sealift issues. The authors believe their highlighting of the narrative, cross-references, and detailed index makes this document user-friendly.
