On December 1, 1984, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), conducted an air-to-ground impact test demonstration with a remotely piloted transport category airplane. This joint program, identified as the Full-Scale Transport Controlled Impact Demonstration Program (CID), was the culmination of the four years of effort by the two agencies. The main thrust of this effort included activities involved in the development and subsequent demonstration of an antimisting fuel experiment and experiments relating to improvements in cabin fire safety and structural impact protection. This report documents the results of structural experiments associated with two onboard galleys and overhead stowage compartments. During the impact demonstration, both compartments remained in place without spillage of their internal contents, while the post-crash fire resulted in minor galley damage and total destruction to the overhead compartments.
