The Ashland-Boyd County Airport Board requested federal funds for a project to: Extend runways, to construct parallel and connecting taxiways, strengthen existing runway and apron, install VASI-2 and REILs, and MI lighting system. Also to install security fencing and install new beacon. The new facility will require land acquisition, miscellaneous items, including marking, utility relocation, etc. The construction will result in development of a basic transport airport which will accommodate 70 percent of the basic transport fleet of turbo jet-powered aircraft weighing less than 60,000 pounds. The clearing will involve cutting approximately 48 trees. There will be increased intermittent noise levels due to occasional operations by small business jet aircraft, and slightly increased air pollution due to operation of these aircraft and short term adverse environmental effects associated with normal construction techniques.
