This Conference Proceedings includes the Keynote Address, 2 Overviews and 11 papers from the Symposium sponsored by the AGARD Aerospace Medical Panel, held in Tours, France, on 2nd April 1990. Recent advances in technology are making feasible the concept of a 'Safety Net' system temporarily overriding the authority of the partially or fully incapacitated pilot until he/she is able to resume full control of the aircraft. This Symposium reviewed the current status of technological developments as well as philosophical issue which must be addressed.
