Realistic urban training sites have been built to further the Army's goal to 'train as we fight'. However, these sites are expensive to build. High demand for time at these sites limits availability to troops. The proposed computer-based training system, the Night Operations Urban Trainer (NightOUT), will provide interactive scenario-based skill practice that should transfer to physical training sites and real world operations. NightOUT will address aided (thermal, image intensification) and unaided night vision issues that impact command and control in urban environments. The training system will adapt the scenarios, guidance and feedback to the individual's skills and needs. This report summarizes the results of Phase I and describes the proposed design for a Phase II development effort.
