The purpose of this study is to develop a better method for estimating urban runoff in designing urban highway drainage systems in the District of Columbia. An underpass pumping station of depressed highways was gaged from 1964 to 1969 to record the urban storm runoff into this station. 18 observed storm records were compared to the computed results by 3 currently used methods of prediction: The rational method, the unit hydrograph method, and the modified area-time method.
