The modernization of ships has made a remakable progress in recent years mainly in the improvement of performances and automation of individual apparatuses. However, the development of software exclusively for operation is essential for the efficient integrated management of ships. From this viewpoint, NKK developed a Computer Aided Navigation System (CANSY). First, the authors developed the navigation data automatic recording system to be used as an aid for operation control and have installed it on six ships to date. Next, the authors developed the rough-weather navigation system and the energy-saving navigation system to enable captains to make exact judgment under all circumstances, and have installed it on one ship. This paper presents an outline and some examples of application of CANSY.
