Experiments on Spacelab with bacteria, other unicellular organisms, human cells, on the development of higher organisms, and on plant perception are summarized. Results show that cell proliferation and differentiation are particularly affected by reduced gravity. Results which indicate a decrease in the capacity to fight infection even after a short time in space are important for planning manned flights.
