Data for permissible irradiation at pulse-repetition green N d YAG radiation are reported. Flight altitude and speed permissible for irradiation at the sea surface are discussed. Safety aspects of laser bathymetry from helicopters or aircraft are treated. The need for the laser operator to have observational control over the part of the sea surface that can be hit by radiation of higher irradiance than the threshold value is stressed. The risks of flights over islands and shores are outlined, as well as the risks for animal life.
