The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Japan Airlines International (JALI) have developed a data reconstruction program DHS (Data Handling System) Converter which generates input data for the flight data visualization program DRAP (Data Review and Analysis Program). The DHS Converter constructs a flight path using QAR (Quick Access Recorder) data so that DRAP can provide smooth and realistic 3-D animation. To facilitate more efficient review of pilot flight data, the DHS Converter also generates supplementary flight information such as estimated horizontal and vertical wind. This paper describes the functional architecture of the DHS Converter and validation of its reconstructive algorithms.
