The Proceedings were based on a conference sponsored by the Naval Medical Research and Development Command and hosted by the Naval Research Center in April 1989. The meeting followed an earlier one at the lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in November-December 1988 which was designed to enhance awareness of available combat simulation models and to consider whether these might have utility for Navy applications. The conference was organized principally to pursue two objectives: to survey available data sources at the Naval Health Research Center and elsewhere that may be relevant to assessing the effects of stress on military performance, and to provide an expert forum to evaluate the possibility of constructing new models to represent performance degradation under stress and/or incorporating human factor variables into existing models. Keywords: Stress, Performance, Cold, Heat, Sleep, Combat simulation models, Team training, MicroSAINT, Symposia, Stress(Physiology). (JG)
