Lightning simulation ground tests were conducted on the NASA F-106B research aircraft prior to its 1982 flight program. The purpose of the test program was to measure the response of the aircraft's electromagnetic sensors and interior wire circuits to controlled ground test environments. Both direct attachment and radiated field lightning test techniques were used. In most cases, the F-106B's engine was running, and test data were gathered simultaneously by the on-board instrumentation system and a remote data acquisition system. The wide variety of ground test data obtained in these tests will aid the interpretation of the transient data produced by natural strikes. (Author)
