The report describes the development of a mathematical model that will simulate the response of a UH-ID/H helicopter airframe to vertical crash loading and the full-scale crash test performed to verify the validity of the model. The results of this program indicate that: The structural weakness contributing to most impact injuries in UH-1D/H helicopter accidents are lack of resistance to failure in lateral roll-over and lack of energy-absorbing capability to reduce vertical accelerations; The matical model is capable of accurately predicting the floor and engine accelerations and deflections; In its present form, the model does not accurately predict the transmission accelerations and deflections.
