The U.S. Department of Transportation sponsored a major survey to examine the attitudes of American citizens toward transportation problems. The survey used a specially designed sample of 1538 people, chosen to represent a valid cross-section of the American adult population. The survey focused on determining the habits of Americans in using public and private transportation . It also covered the perceived relationships between transportation and other national issues as well as specific attitudes toward individual modes. This report contains the full results of the survey, as well as descriptive material on the sampling techniques involved.
