During the Civil Aircraft Airworthiness Data Recording Program instances were found where runway unevenness at two international airports produced CG normal acceleration oscillations of unusually large amplitudes for brief periods during the takeoff or landing run. Flight records of events are reproduced and discussed, one runway/aircraft combination being dealt with in particular detail owing to the phenomenon occurring frequently and being a source of comment from pilots. There has been no known evidence of aircraft damage resulting from the events but some contribution to fatigue damage could occur, particularly on aircraft types with heavy wing-mounted appendages. It is suggested that selective resurfacing of the runways could considerably alleviate the loading action. (Author)
