The thesis investigates the effect that air freight theft/pilferage has had on the growth of the air freight industry. A survey of 219 shippers has indicated the following conclusions: (1) The exact losses through theft/pilferage is unknown. (2) A significant percentage of the shippers are dissatisfied with security at air freight terminals. (3) Low freight liability statutes are reflected in poor secuirty conditions at air freight terminals. (4) Deceptive techniques are being taken by shippers to protect goods shipped by air freight. (5) The high theft/pilferage rate is not a limiting factor in the growth of the air freight industry. (Author)
