The project for expansion of existing port facilities at the northern end of Cook Inlet, city of Anchorage, Alaska, will increase berthing space and provide facilities for increased marine commerce. Dredging will be required in the ship channel. The port of Anchorage will be better able to handle peak traffic loads and alleviate the queueing of vessels simultaneously arriving at the port. Cost savings are expected in the city's economy. Adverse effects include increased turbulence and silt suspension in Cook Inlet during dredging operations. Air quality will be affected as a result of exhaust emissions and dust agitation caused by increased activities in the port area.
