A survey was carried out involving interviews of 2198 people in Great Britain, and classified counts of the traffic passing 998 addresses. The objectives of the work were to obtain national estimates of the extent and severity of lorry nuisance and to investigate its character. The results indicated that: 12% of the population were disturbed when indoors and 19% felt the number of lorries passing their home was unreasonable. A higher percentage (38%) suffered lorry nuisance when walking or driving. A comparative assessment of the levels of disturbance caused by different sizes of lorry was also included.
