Current combustor design technology depends primarily upon empirical correlation and past experimental experience of the designers. There is a continuing need for knowledge of the combustion process and how the different design and performance parameters are related. The objective of this program was to investigate the feasibility of measuring combustor noise and then relating the noise levels by correlation curves to other pertinent performance parameters, such as combustor efficiency, and mass emissions.
