One of the possibilities to improve the seakeeping behavior in waves of a fast monohull at reasonable cost, apart from raising the deadrise and changing the bow shape, is to make use of the so-called 'enlarged ship' concept. To optimise the seakeeping behavior for one particular design by using this 'enlarged' ship concept, motion calculations and operability analyses with the codes SEAWAY and FASTSHIP of the Delft Shiphydromechanics Laboratory have been performed for both the original and the enlarged concepts. An assessment of the possible changes in resistance and propulsion, weight, building cost, and operational cost has been made in order to be able to quantify and qualify the increase in operability against the increase in cost. By doing so, a conclusion may be reached about the feasability of the concept against other possible solutions which make use of different advanced marine vehicle concepts.
