Simulators have long been used in training situations to provide hands-on experience without risking expensive real systems. The most common example is in aircraft flight training. It has been OAO Corporation's experience that the same principles can be applied on a much more modest scale to expedite spacecraft ground system integration and operator training. The purpose of this paper is to outline some of the uses of simulators in the military space ground system environment, present some indicators which aid in determining when a simulator design. The authors validate these points by drawing on six years experience in providing space vehicles and operational simulation aids to NASA, USAF and commercial satellite control centers. (Author)
