The report covers a nationwide survey of driver use patterns based on vehicle operation data recorded by tachographs and driver logs from approximately 1200 cars located in the following cities: Los Angeles, Houston, Cincinnati, Chicago, Minneapolis/St Paul, and New York. To obtain the necessary driving cycle information (such as average number of trips and mileage accumulated on each trip, average speed, and total mileage per day), each car was monitored for a one-week period, with the number of cars surveyed in each city dependent on the area, population, and prior knowledge of driving patterns.
