A colloquium on Helicopter Guidance and Navigation Systems was held at Savoy Place on Monday, 12 January 1981. Topics included (1) Recovery of helicopters in poor visibility; (2) Requirements for navigation and guidance; (3) Navigation of helicopters in support of the North Sea oil industry; (4) The development of MADGE as a precision approach aid for helicopter operations on an offshore structure; (5) The application of inertial and associated autonomous guidance techniques to helicopters; (6) Helicopter night vision piloting systems; (7) Possible techniques for wire detection; (8) Abnormal behaviour of Doppler navigation systems and (9) Rotor blade radar as a navigation and approach aid.
