The project is a segment of the Appalachian development highway system designated as Corridor 'F' serving the Appalachian region in eastern Kentucky. It will open up areas for development which have been heretofore inhibited by lack of adequate access. Approximately 45 residences and 2 junk yards will be displaced by right of way acquisition on this project. The construction will require the taking of approximately 350 acres of marginal use land. Noise, dust and exhaust pollutants from construction equipment would create a temporary adverse effect on the environment as well as a small amount of unavoidable erosion from the roadway cuts and fills during construction. After the road has been opened to traffic, there would probably be some adverse effects on the environment due to exhaust pollutants from vehicles. The highway will adversely alter the character of the area to some extent because of the cuts and fills which are required.
