The study compared 40 monocular and 40 binocular tractor-trailer drivers on measures of both visual and driving performance. Measures of visual search, lane keeping, clearance judgement, gap judgement, hazard detection, and information interpretation showed no differences between monocular and binocular drivers. It was concluded that monocular and binocular drivers (1) show significant differences in the ability to see clearly and certain driving functions dependent on this ability, and (2) do not show significant differences in the safety of day-to-day driving.
