This report contains the results of the first-phase analysis of the ground support requirements for the Boeing supersonic transport. GROUND SUPPORT requirements have been carefully considered in developing the design of the SST, with particular attention given to the use of existing GSE, and the greatest possible compatibility has been achieved. This report will make possible realistic advance planning for essential SST Ground Support Equipment. Major ground support functions have been identified and the Boeing Company's recommendations for GSE are presented. The primary purpose of this analysis was to provide a complete list and description of the significant ground support equipment necessary for effective maintenance and servicing of the supersonic transport, its systems and equipment items. From this analysis, it has been determined that the ground servicing and handling requirements of the Boeing SST at terminals are not significantly different from most of current commercial jet airplanes. Boeing design emphasizes ease of maintenance and servicing to assure rapid transits and turn-arounds. In general, the maintenance ground support equipment requirements are similar to those of present commercial jet aircraft; however, ther will be certain differences. These differences will not require unique equipment development. It is estimated that approximately 60 percent of the over-all maintenance equipment requirements of the SST will be satisfied by support equipment which will be in use in support of contemporary aircraft.
