Multimission telecommunication satellite payload options and launcher requirements for long term mission initial launch; replacement payload with fuel top up; classical solutions; and comparison with mid term mission are summarized. Long term mission requirements (20 yr) can be satisfied by an initial launch of a reduced capability payload, but with a power system capable of maintaining a full mission payload for 20 yr, and subsequent replacement of the initial payload by a full mission payload which would also contain top-up fuel for stationkeeping. Long term mission requirements could also be satisfied by the launch of two spacecraft based on L-SAT, and occupying the same orbital slot with minimum additional station-keeping equipment. These spacecraft would have a 10 yr lifetime. A mid term mission using dichroics offers a saving of 300kg over a classical solution using a single launch. Alternatively the mission could be satisfied by splitting the payload into two and carrying each on a EUROSTAR class spacecraft.
