This fact sheet reviews the flight of Gemini 4, from the choice of astronauts, to the post flight activities. This flight marks the first extra vehicular activity by an American astronaut. Other objectives of the flight were: (1) to demonstrate the performance of the spacecraft's systems for a period of approximately four days in space, (2) to evaluate the effects of prolonged exposure of the flight crew to the space environment in preparation for flights of longer duration, (3) To conduct station keeping activities, (4) to demonstrate the capability of making significant in-plane and out-of-plane maneuvers, (5) to demonstrate the capability of the orbital attitude and maneuver system to operate as a backup to the retrograde rocket system, and (6) to execute 11 experiments. Pictures of the astronauts in preparation for the flight, the lift-off from the Launch pad, and the extravehicular activity are included. Also pictures of some of the post-flight activities are included.
