The elder population comprises one group of customers the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) serves. Through a series of focus groups and discussions, FDOT developed a mail survey instrument to ascertain the level of satisfaction of older Floridians in a number of important areas: How well a driver is able to see key signing and road markings; Experiences in the State Highway System construction zones; Travel on the State Highway System within the community; Public transportation in the area; Overall satisfaction with various aspects of the State Highway System. Beginning in November, the Florida State University Survey Research Laboratory undertook a survey of older Floridians identified by FDOT through a list provided by Florida's Department of Elder Affairs.
