The report describes the proposed project located in the City of Fort Worth and South Tarrant County. The proposed highway improvements will comprise a basic six-lane freeway having controlled access and frontage roads for selected areas to establish local traffic travel. The freeway will be 17.5 miles in length and connects IH 35W and State Highway 121 northeast of the Fort Worth Central Business District with Loop IH 820 (now IH 20) approximately 8.5 miles southwest of the Fort Worth Central Business District. The southerly portion of the project will extend 9.0 miles south of IH 20 through open undeveloped rural land, to the Tarrant-Johnson County line. The positive known environmental benefits resulting, or expected to result, from the construction of this proposed highway are (1) convenience of traffic movements for the regional inhabitants, (2) prevention of a growing accident rate, and (3) less air pollution due to improved travel conditions. The negative environmental effects will be the displacement of both people and wildlife, and to some extent the construction of structures across the open space of the Trinity River and flood plain.
